noun; any extended period of leave from one’s customary work, especially for rest, to acquire new skills or training, etc.

After nearly 18 years at Microsoft (I’ve been working on Xbox for almost 14 years, which blows my mind) I’ve been given the opportunity to take a sabbatical. That’s a fancy way of saying “really long vacation”. It’s Microsoft’s way of saying “we like you, and we don’t want you to burn out. go recharge your batteries”.

I’m going to sleep. I’m going to spend time with my friends and family. I’m going to walk my dog, read books, play board games, and work on my insanely large videogame backlog.

What I won’t be doing during this time is checking email, news, or social media. I’m sure that I’ll be tweeting the occasional photo but that’s about it. Don’t expect me to answer any questions sent my way.

Apropos of nothing, my gamerscore as I start my sabbatical is 76,552. I’ll rejoin the world in June. See you then!

Have a good recharge E! We all need moments like that in life! Most people wait until it’s too late, sadly! Most importantly HAVE FUN! (And thanks for signing my Xbox too)

Have fun E. You’ve done some great work on XBOX and we all want you back refreshed and ready to bring on some new goodness to the XBOX community when you return. Look forward to hearing from you in June.
